Favorite music includes The Strokes (which brings me general happiness, and from whose song “Soma” this blog’s title was taken), Led Zeppelin (which makes me feel alive), Pearl Jam (because Eddie Vedder is the man), Smashing Pumpkins (for sentimental days, and for sleeping), Nirvana (for angry days), The Magic Numbers (for days when I feel weak and vulnerable), My Morning Jacket (whose diversity of sound amazes me), The White Stripes (because Jack White is the man), Muse (because of the hypnotizing vocals), and The Shins (which has nice cryptic lyrics).
I write about politics for a living, so you’ll never read about that here.

Ahh, been catching up on your blog…good stuff!
NY is fast, and I mean FAST! If you’re from a smaller town you’ll be shocked when you get here. I’ve known quite a few people who come here from elsewhere and are in shock for the first few months. Once you adjust though, it’d great (basically just as you described it). The other Burroughs of NYC, and upstate NY offer a lot of varied cultures to experience, so never just focus on Manhattan (which is also great too). I look forward to reading on, and commenting in the future here.

It’s the world’s melting pot…you’ll feel at home being surrounded by such diverse people and cultures…the main adjustment will be towards the faster pace in life when you’re in NY.
